Owl’s Adventure III (Updated)
SOLD
Note: The original entry is after the break… You can see that since then I’ve repainted the owl’s eyes on Caitlin’s suggestion (“it’s dark in space so their pupils should be dilated” — true), added some white linework, and beefed up some of the outlines. Other than the frame, it may be done now. You can click the painting for a much higher resolution picture (warning: about half a meg) if you want.
I still don’t have the depth of color right; it’s much deeper and richer than this picture conveys… I really need to learn how to photograph my work properly.
Original entry:
This painting needs a little touch-up and minor changes but it’s just about done… The picture doesn’t really capture the subtlety of the colours (for example, the owls are actually a pale yellow) so I’ll try and take a picture of it outdoors in natural lighting when it’s framed and truly complete.

Violeta, if I ever have time I’d LOOOVE to do an animation (flash would be pretty easy) of these a la Yellow Submarine…

Nice catch, Caitlin.
Now with the yellow submarine and psychadelic comments, They’re tottaly spaced out and tripping on acid.

to photograph your work, i’d probably check your camera’s white balance and adjust it accordingly for the light you’re shooting under. if you’re using a flash (which you probably should/are), set the white balance on the camera to “flash,” and if at all possible, don’t hit it directly with the strobe — aim it upwards or diagonally so as to light it indirectly instead of slapping it in the face with a big burst of white.
i’m no pro for photographing artwork, but i hope that helps! those owls are damn cute.

even though it’s “dark” in space, the sun is still blasting light on everything (unless a moon or planet is in the way), correct? Its only dark because there is nothing out there for the light to hit, for you to see. So wouldnt the eyes not be dialated? Not that it matters, but now I’m actually curious.
